I studied German during my three years in the gymnasium. During the first year we were many, around 30 or so. But continuing the course became optional, and then a lot of people dropped out. The third year we were only 5 left.
We 5 got quite close together, same goes for our teacher. That's why we decided to collect money for a one week trip to Berlin in Germany. Said and done, there we went. Of course it was great most of the time, even if the weather sucked. A snowstorm in March isn't really what you hope for. We visited many important and famous places like Brandenburger Tor and Checkpoint Charlie.
One thing that wasn't as important was going to the cinema, we didn't even have a plan about which movie to see, we figured we'd find something. I was quite afraid of it being a cliché romantic one so when I got something else suggested I agreed. The suggestion was Les Miserables, I can't say I was very thrilled but I didn't really mind. That it was a musical might be interesting as it was the first one I've ever seen. And they sold two liter cokes so only that motivates seeing the film.. I was glad that the toilet was nearby, I wouldn't miss much of the movie when I needed to go there.
I never went to the toilet, despite finishing my coke after like two hours I completely forgot about it. Now that I'm writing this I realise that it might look like I'm about to write about some "accident" in the cinema, that is not the case. The movie was just so good that I completely forgot about everything else. It was a true "WOW" surprise.
The movie is the story about a man called Jean Valjean and his life and you wont be able to take your eyes from it. It has the best start of a movie that I've ever seen, and possibly the best end too. Almost every single phrase in the movie is sung and both the first and the last songs are truly mighty. I've listened to songs from the musical more than a hundred times for sure. The movie is both sad, happy and powerful. Just like everyone else watching it I couldn't hold back the tears at many times. It takes place in France starting 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June rebellion in Paris.
I have seen it thrice and I have to say that it's better to see it in the cinema, due to the epicness of the scenes. Sadly I doubt any cinema is still showing it, but it's great to watch anyway. I dislike that the movie includes love at first sight but that's probably the only thing I dislike about it. See it! The version I saw is the 2012 version but there is an earlier one that's supposed to be good too.
The song "I dreamed a dream" from the movie is also what got Susan Boyle famous. I suggest you search for "Susan Boyle firs audition" on youtube and enjoy if you havn't seen it already.
