Apart from The hundred year old Jonas Jonasson has also written another book, "The girl who saved the king of Sweden", also a crazy and hillariously impossible story. This book was a bit different in that everything that happened was more or less plausible, there weren't any presidents, nuclear weapons, or characters based on reality involved so the story was fairly believeable, at least in comparision to his two earlier books. Instead the humour was mainly based on the actual personalities of the characters. This worked well, the characters still caused a lot of laughter with their "morally gray" methods. However I wouldn't say that it really has that little extra that "The hundred year old" and the last fifty pages of "The girl who saved the king of Sweden" has. It is a story that gives many smiles as well as a bit of laughter sometimes but it doesn't reach the same level. I did read this at home, but if I had read it in public I probably wouldn't have been seen as a maniac laughing uncontrollably, unlike his first and part of his second book. The story is more charming than insane. Some people might prefer possible stories to impossible ones but I'd say that it's a bit limitting for his way of writing.
Jonas Jonassons style of writing is perfect for crazy stories and that plays a just as large role as the plot in making his books so great. That is also why "The hundred year old" wasn't nearly as much fun to watch as a movie as it was to read. You could compare the effect his way of writing has on the story to the effect Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrows acting has on The Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It just wouldn't be the same if he didn't act the way he does.
To summarize: A great book that is easy to read and makes you smile a lot and laugh a bit but not one that you will never forget, like his first book was. I'd give it 4/5.
Marc suggested that I'd comment on an article in some paper. Well, the first thing I come up with is the "blood moon" that is supposed to show its face in three hours. Because of where the moon is compared to the earth and sun it will be very large and completely red at about 04.00. Last time this happened was 1982 and next time will be 2033. I'd stay up to watch it despite the lesson I have at 10.15 tomorrow but sadly there is a mountain in the way. I'll have to be satisfied with seeing the northern lights, which I did two or three weeks ago. I will be sure to check Youtube for videos tomorrow however. Do tell me in the comments if you saw the moon and if it was worth seeing.
Good night
