I just don't see how making a large study is related to the journalism work, I'm not taking an education in any kind of science, and when I do research it's to find already existing facts, not to come up with some smart theory. One of the greatest things of finishing the gymnasium in Sweden was that I wouldn't have all the unnecessary obligatory courses anymore, like chemistry for example. What was forced to learn in chemistry in the gymnasium, which was beyond the very basics in elementary school that you "should know", will never be useful for me in my work.
I guess that's enough of sad news/whining, lets get to the fun things :)
I've been quite tired many mornings when I started working on the study as I went to bed around 02.00. The reason? The chess world championship is going on right now, Magnus Carlsen against Sergey Karjakin. Currently it's 5.5 - 5.5, 9 draws and one win each. The reigning champion Magnus is one of the two best players of all time so he is the favourite to win by far, he's doing more mistakes than usual tho. Still, I cheer for him as he tries to win while Karjakin (almost) always plays for a draw. The time Carlsen lost he did it as much to himself as to Karjakin as he simply tried too hard to win. One more round to go, then we'll see :) I highly recommend the new documentary about Magnus Carlsen, I only got a link to the version where the Norwegian they speak is translated into Swedish. The main part of it is in English tho and it shouldn't be hard to find. I leave the link at the end of the post.
About stand-up? Well, I visited the comedian Nils Hallbergs show yesterday evening with some friends. It was the first time I watched stand up-comedy live so I was very curious. In the end he got me to laugh a bit but not the majority of the 90 minutes. I didn't dislike it but I don't think I'll be going again.
After the show we went to a nearby tapas place and I have to say that the calamari rings and especially the chicken skewers were wonderful. The chicken skewers might very well be the best I've ever eaten. I also got to try blackberry cider, new taste and it was pretty alright. If I had a well paid work I would definately visit the place many more times.
What else? Well, Except for chess I've also watched the Dreamhack Winter Hearthstone Championship. I wish I could participate but work takes up too much time. Instead I have to settle for that a nice Swede that I follow on twitch and have played against multiple times managed to surprisingly get second place among the about 110 world class players. Good enough!
The picture is of the comedian.
