The first one was TT, Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå. They work with providing other media with news. Their news are serious, no gossip or such, which I like. The atmosphere felt nice so I got a quite good impression. There was just one large disadvantage really. As TT sells their work to other papers your byline wont be there, it will only say "TT", and I want my name to be under the articles that I write.
The second paper was Mitt i, a newspaper that's published weekly in different editions in different parts of Stockholm. I would have the chance to work with the part of Stockholm that I used to live in. As there were so many different editions there were quite few working on each. On many there were only one person, so you do have to find and come up with all the content of the paper on your own. I don't really think I'm ready to find all the news on my own yet. I might be interested in this paper in a few years when I'm better, but not yet.
I had considered both of these, especially Mitt i so I was a bit disappointed.
The third was Aftonbladet. This is a less serious paper that focuses more on gossip and overexaggerated headlines. Of course it would be interesting to see it as it is one of Swedens largest papers but I didn't plan on applying for a trainee place there. Turns out I was a bit wrong about the paper. They do have the gossip and headlines, but also a science department, and as the woman from Aftonbladet who informed us gave me a good impression I'm pretty sure that I will apply for that place. I will also apply for a place at their e-sport department, which I had completely forgotten about when I weighed my options. I am allowed to apply for both in the same letter so searching for Aftonbladet not only gives me one chance but two.
Fourth was Svenska Dagbladet, a serious paper that I find ok, and that was also the impression I got when I was there. Nothing special really but ok. I wouldn't be disappointed if I ended up there.
The last place we visited was Kamratposten, a paper for kids. As some of you know I like kids and have worked as a trainer at a sports camp for kids many years. I did consider Kamratposten as I found the idea appealing with a bit more light-hearted news for kids. Sadly it felt a bit too childish in many ways so I don't think it really fits me well.
Which papers will I apply for then? Well, Definately Aftonbladet, both science and e-sport. Except for that I'm not sure but I'm looking for some normal paper in Stockholm that isn't too focused on gossip. There are a lot of different papers to choose from and they are all different. From high quality TT to Nyheter24, a site that isn't really worthy of being called journalistic. 90% of what they write is either ten top lists of random things or debate articles from kids as young as 12 with controversial opinions, leading to a hatestorm these kids shouldn't have to face at their age. I actually got a bit annoyed when I saw that applying to Nyheter 24 was allowed, I really hope noone does.
Except for that all papers were really nice and well worth applying for if you're interested in the area that paper focuses on. But where do I want to go? ... But regardless of that I'm really excited to get to work for a longer time at a paper, whichever it might be.
