On Thursday I finally sent my papers and presentation of who I am that I need to send to have a chance to study abroad. My goal is to study at a university in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. There is competition for the places, they arn't unlimited, but I got an advantage as I have been helping international students here in Sweden so my chances are probably good. If I don't get Amsterdam I also have a plan B and a plan C of course, I'm going abroad.
To be honest I'd recommend every single student who can to take the chance to go abroad. It's absolutely worth it and it's also a once in a lifetime chance unless you want to pay for and organise everything on your own. I speak from experience as my first time abroad was right after the gymnasium when I was 18. You can read about that in my first blog, leofreiburg.weebly.com. Alone in a new country there is not much help you can get from the start. That doesn't mean that you will fail, it means that you will manage on your own. Just trust me on that.
What about the nice food then? Well, this week every year there is an international food market in the city center. They got everything from american XXXL sausage to french cheese to crocodile burger. Yeah, the australian place has crocodile burgers, as well as kangaroo, wild boar, camel and zebra. I ate a crocodile one, I would probably have tried more if the price had been better and the burger larger. It was quite clearly something you do just to have done it, not because of how good it is. It was decent but not worth 10 euro for a size that McDonalds sells for a tenth of it. I'm also a bit questioning about the zebra part, since when does Australia have zebras?
Except for the burgers I also bought some fudge from the British place. I bought five and took both tastes I usually liked and tastes I found interesting. The usual stuff like raspberry, strawberry and mango was good, as was the donut taste that I tried. The one I didn't really like was Jägermeister taste. If I take a shot of something stronger some time it's usually Jäger. I just forgot that even if it's my favourite strong drink it still doesn't really taste good. The Jäger fudge went into the trash can after a bite. The picture is also of the fudge, plenty of options as you can see. I'm quite proud of my self control that helped me only try five.
