Yesterday was quite funny. All I knew about this party at "The peoples house" in Bollsta, a small village 90 minutes to the north was that it would be live music, a bar and a dancefloor, sounds pretty much like a normal disco. I'm not a big fan of discos but I'm used to them and know how they look and work. The reason I was going to this party was that one of my classmates was going to see his parents there, seven of us decided to tag along with him out of curiosity. To experience a real peasant party, as he put it.
It turned out to be just like he said. However the average age was about fifty. As I mentioned I'm not a fan of disco dancing but I think I prefer that to dancing bugg with ladies in their fifties. I managed to get away pretty well, staying polite but not getting into a real dance. Some of my friends weren't as lucky, two got dragged out onto the dancefloor. In the end I got into a discussion about politics and the Sweden democrats with two of the ladies, big mistake as we were about to leave. Luckily I got saved by a friend, if that hadn't happened I don't know for how long I would've been stuck there. They were so excited to hear that we had come to the village only for the party.
I can't say I really enjoyed being there but I do enjoy the memory of it. 90 minutes of roadtrip with my friends back and forth wasn't a bad thing either. Now I know the "peasant" way of partying in the north. Who knows, perhaps I'll like it when I'm fifty.
To all ladies in their fifties: I hope I didn't offend you, but if we meet, please don't ask me for a dance or ask for my second name, that's a bit scary. When the age difference is that large I prefer to keep it down to talking, nothing more.
I know that the word peasant can be seen as insulting, I'm only using it because my friend called it a peasant party himself and I don't really know a better word to describe the feeling of it.
PS: I'm finally done with the second version of the text I wrote last week. This Monday I got to go through it with some third graders who told me what to improve. Said and done. I've been sitting for quite a long time with the text so I'm really excited to see which grade I get. It's quite tough finding the right word for the sentence without being repetitive. I sat about two hours today and only changed two sentences, I'm not dissatisfied with that. I havn't only worked today of course, I've been working the entire week so it feels really good to have handed it in for judgement from above.
- Or judgement from the teacher but that doesn't sound dramatic enough. -
