What about the mute part? Well, one part of my work with the internationals was to translate what some important people during the introduction weeks say when they held speeches for the students. As the surroundings usually are quite loud I have to speak loud for as many as possible of the internationals to hear. That combined with a chill led to that I literally lost my voice last Tuesday. I could whisper a bit but that's the worst thing you can do when you want to get your voice back so I pretty much stayed silent for some days.
It was quite fun when I went to the supermarket to buy some things. I bought whatever the internet said was good for getting ones voice back. I knew where most things were but not honey so I had to ask. I walked up to a worker and pointed at my phone where I had written "honung?", honey in Swedish. He asked if I was mute and I nodded, then showed me it. I tried to say thanks but realised I couldn't speak so I just nodded. After getting everything I headed to the checkout. There I changed the text on my phone to "tillfälligt stum, studentliv", momentarily mute, student life translated to English. The cashier recognised me as I've been going to said supermarket for quite a while now so she seemed quite amused. I found it quite entertaining as well.
The next day at school I could get some words out that wasn't whispering but it was still far too bad to use so I stayed silent after giving a warning in the class group, with the addition that it was fine to laugh. I got quite a few comments and replied with gestures but the funniest part was during the lecture. As long as I didn't get directly asked something I thought I could get away with being mute. However the teacher told us to discuss a subject for some minutes. My classmate who sat next to me asked me about my thoughts, and realised the mistake after five seconds or so, which was quite amusing. Another classmate took my place to make it work while I stuck to thumbs up and thumbs down if I agreed or disagreed.
On Friday and Saturday I was well enough to attend the two last parties of the introduction, even if I took it quite chill. Sunday I just took it easy and started looking it at the take-home exam, then comes Monday and that's where I started this post, work.
Anything else? Well, today I've been out playing some football and running with some friends which was great fun.
The picture is of my phone with the message for the cashier. I wrote it as a message to some random advertisement number as a notebook but didnt send it of course.
