That doesn't mean that it isn't fun to write articles about sports. While writing I focus more on the person and event than exactly who did what in a game. Writing about sports is just like writing about other hobbies that don't interest me in particular, which means great.
Anyway, where was I ... right, free for some weeks.
In less than three weeks I'll be back in Sundsvall with my studies. Also with a lot of friends from everywhere in both Sweden and the world so really looking forward to that. But it still feels very good to have absolutely nothing I must do for a little while, except things I want to like meet some friends and so. So what am I doing?
Well, I mentioned being active in e-sports earlier, the game Hearthstone in particular, I have written a bit about it earlier too. As I managed to get a higher and higher ranking online I decided to try out a real tournament last Saturday. I was done with work for the week and it was just 800 meters and two subway stops away from my place so why not? To my surprise I actually ended up winning it. The final was livestreamed so that was quite fun to see when I got home. The 50 euro to buy for in Webbhallen, a store with computers and earphones and such, that was the first price didn't hurt either.
Today I went for it again, both for playing and meeting my cousin for a little while who works at Stockhom e-sports, the organisation behind the tournament. This time there were just 8 participants but they were a lot better. Two of them were top ten in Sweden so that was pretty cool, names Weghuz and Firrlo. I met four opponents with the rules being best of three. Winning 5 games in total and losing 4 got me to the semi finals. One of the people I lost to was Weghuz. He is also a streamer (sends live from his computer at home on twitch for others to watch) that I watch sometimes so it was a quite weird feeling meeting him face to face. He won our match 2-1.
The semi-final was to a player I lost 0-2 to in the start but this time the tables were turned and I was the one with 2-0 instead. In the final I ended up against Weghuz again. This time the results were a bit more decisive, lost twice in a row. It didn't really bother me that much as it was a fun experience and second place is also very good considering the opponents.
The price was a mix of whatever they had had in store, at least that's my guess. I came there with my computer and went home after four fun hours with my computer, a poster, a cute plastic figure, a t-shirt, two decks of the card game Magic and a holder for ice cubes, all related to the game of course. It was also great meeting my cousin for a while so a really nice Sunday! I know there is a tournament next Saturday too and I'll probably go to it. Don't worry tho, I'm not going to spend half the blog post writing about it again unless it's something extraordinary that isn't just the games or what place I came.
I didn't mention chess among sports I like ... Despite having played it for 15 years I don't really like watching it as it takes too long between the moves and the games worth watching are at a level too high for me to try to calculate what the next move could be. During the world championships I checked every now and then how the games were going but that's it.
The picture is of the final game last week when I won. I skipped showing my opponent as I don't know how he'd feel about that but you can see the game on a link below, jump to 03:35:30 for the last game, it's 5 min long. His facial expressions are quite entertaining even if you don't understand what happens.
